“Enterprise Computing and Web Services, ECWS’06” Workshop
In conjunction with
The First IEEE International Conference on Digital Information Management (ICDIM'06)
December 06-08, 2006
Sponsored by IEEE Engineering Management Society

Nowadays, the emergence of Web Services for distributed computing allows heterogeneous applications to interact directly with one another as if they were part of a single, large network. By combining Web services into e-business processing, web services provides also the means to build agile networks of collaborating business applications distributed within and across enterprise boundaries. In this context, web services become the next level of abstraction in the process of developing systems that would enable interaction and automation of e-businesses. Creating business applications using Web services raise concerns that range from enterprise modelling and agile organization through to the design of business processes and business services, and involve a wide and ever growing range of methods, models, tools and technologies. Through the widespread adoption of Web services, the enterprise is becoming more efficient, especially for e-business processing, application integrations and interactions.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners for discussing views on how to integrate web services into enterprise computing. The workshop tackles the research problems around models, frameworks, architectures, methods and technology that enable enterprise computing in service-oriented environments. It will foster cross-disciplinary interaction in the field of web services-centric computing technologies and a broad spectrum of enterprise organisations e.g. enterprise architectures, business process, business services, workflow, supply chain and so on.
The proposed workshop promotes a greater understanding of how web service can assist enterprises to develop and manage their business processes on demand and more efficiently than ever before. The workshop will be organized in a way to highly stimulate interaction amongst the participants. To this aim, an important part of each regular time slot will be reserved for discussion.

Topics of Interest
Submissions are invited that focus specifically on the challenges in applying Web Services in business computing. We invite researchers and experts of Web Service technology and enterprise service to submit original research papers as well as reports on work in progress related to Web services, Service Oriented Architecture, Business Process, Supply Chain, Workflow and so on.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Enterprise modelling and Web Services
- Frameworks for building enterprise Web Service applications
- Service Oriented Architectures for enterprise applications
- Business Service models using Web Services
- Business Process models based on Web Services
- Web Services for process and enterprise integrations
- Process management, monitoring and analysis with Web Services
- Web services-centric technologies for the Supply Chain
- Workflow technologies and Web Services
- Composite web services creation and enabling in business applications
- Web Services-based collaboration for virtual enterprises
- Knowledge management issues in web services
- Web Services-based applications and solutions for e-commerce & B2B
- Adoption of Web Services by organisations
- Case studies on web services-based applications and systems

These topics indicate the general focus of the workshop, however, related contributions are welcome also.

Format of the workshop

Provisional program:
1. One day (Date will be notified later)

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original research contributions in English, not published or submitted elsewhere, and should refer to related state-of-the-art work. We also encourage submitting position papers or experience reports describing work in progress.

Paper Formatting Instructions

Submissions should not exceed eight (8) pages in length (including all tables, figures, and references) and should be in IEEE Proceedings Format (LaTeX formatting macros, Word format), which is single-spaced, two columns, 10pt Times/Roman font. Proceedings templates are also available in Word, and LaTeX. These templates are located at:

Papers should be submitted to the workshop chair:

Reviewing process

Each paper will receive at least three anonymous peer reviews. All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. By submitting a paper, authors implicitly agree that at least one of them will register to the workshop and present the paper. The accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings by the IEEE Engineering Management Society Press.
